nStudents@SC Keynote: Livin’ on the Edge: Thoughts on Careers in High Perf
ormance Computing\n\nHendrickson\n\nHigh performance computing has always
been a discipline at the leading edge of the computing ecosystem. By its
very nature, HPC involves pushing technology to its limits and making new
things possible. While exciting and motivating, these opportunities also i
nvolve stress and risk. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference betwee
n being on the “cutting edge” and being on the “edge of the cliff”! Edgy
even in the calmest of times, HPC is on the cusp of major technology and a
pplication disruptions that will require fresh approaches to nearly everyt
hing. In this talk I will share thoughts and advice on career paths in thi
 s highly dynamic discipline.
